Censors in Malaysia told newspaper and television news editors not to pursue stories posted by bloggers, the South China Morning Post reports.

The Malaysian security ministry’s order was circulated March 13 to 12 mainstream newspapers and five television stations. It ordered editors not to “give any consideration whatsoever” to anti-government material posted online, according to the Tuesday (March 19, 2007) edition of the South China Morning Post.

News of the ban first broke Saturday (March 16, 2007) on the online magazine www.malaysiakini.com.

"They can treat us like pariahs but we are here to stay," said Raja Petra Kamaruddin, owner of the hugely popular Malaysia-Today website, the South China Morning Post reported.
