fashion magazine editor jobs
Magazine Editor!?

I am going to college after this year, and I’m going to college in my state. Then I’m going to move out to New York and try my dream job of becoming a Magazine Editor for my favorite magazines such as: Seventeen, Cosmogirl, People, Allure.
What would I have to do first in order to become an editor. Who would I meet? Does it pay a good amount of money?!

Do you think I could be working in my favorite magazine? ….

Please answer… I need to know if my dream job is worth pursuing.

Please tell me all the information you know about this career. I want to become a Beauty/Fashion Magazine Editor.

.. Thanks!

Magazine editors make great money, especially those who work for beauty/fashion magazines, but it is an extremely competitive market and you will have to go through a lot of crappy jobs before you get to your dream job. Set your sights on something smaller to help you break into the industry: become the asisstant editor for a smaller regional magazine or a trade magazine, or the local independant newspaper. These jobs don’t usually pay much and don’t have great hours but give you some good experience to put on your resume. Once you have done the “small shop” circut for a while, and gotten to be a supervising editor, you can then look for a more glamourous position. Don’t count on being even the person who answers the phone at Elle for at least a dozen years!
