Magshark.com is it a scam?

I just saw an add for Magshark.com. It is a free magazine subscription website and i am just wondering if anyone has used it or if its a scam.

Looking at the site (I haven’t used it) it’s not a scam: the costs of the magazine subscriptions are paid for by TrialPay. This is a system where sellers (of things like software or services) “advertise” to get people to sign up for a trial of whatever they have on offer; TrialPay gets paid for this ad and uses part of that to pay other sellers for product that normally costs money.

In this example, a subscription would be free for you, but PAID for by the TrialPay advertiser, and you MUST sign up for a trial with one of the TrialPay participants in order to “earn” your free subscription.

The sting? Some trials are not free, or not completely free. Some will automatically renew (at cost) after your free trial period, which may be quite short.

Use it? I’d suggest you check out the TrialPay offers: is there something you really would be interested in? What are their conditions? (Completely free trial? for how long? what do you need to do if you don’t want to continue after the trial period in order to avoid having to pay?) Conditions differ per TrialPay seller, so check and read carefully. Remember that for a trial you always end up giving your personal data to the TrialPay advertiser – are you comfortable with that?

If you find a good combination, with a TrialPay offer that is not too hard to terminate, go for it!

I’ve personally used the system to get a free software package, and quickly canceled my TrialPay trial. The system works – whetehr it works for you is just a matter of how comfortable you are giving up your data and keeping an eye on trial periods and possible automatic continuation.
