Poverty in Africa, please share your experience with us
Over the past two weeks, I wrote in my travels in East Africa by the year past and that poverty in Africa is a true and shares the opinions of the people I work in the field. In the last thread that I wrote about people in Ruhanga and the search for drinking water
Leaving Ruhanga went to Kampala, the capital of Uganda and I thought I read a statistic in this work "day
He said: "The gap between rich and poor has widened Uganda and life expectancy has dropped to 43 by HIV and AIDS
If this is the case, where the country is headed and I was wondering 43 (at the time) that means I'm considered too old here whereas the UK, where I live, I potentially have another 30 or 40 years of life ahead!
Once I called in Kampala Mbuya charity based in the slums of Kampala and support women affected by HIV and AIDS.
Mbuya is a suburb of Kampala and in the face of it is very rich, is home to some of the expat community, local celebrities and the rich of Uganda. But dig deeper and you are experiencing awful especially in poor neighborhoods in an area called 6.
The Chair person of charity Mbuya life Jolly Wako in zone 7, are also pockets of slums, in particular, where life borders Jolly incredibly the home of a trendy bar is separated by a fence ironically called Zone 7, this bar is a local celebrity and his brothers.
Jolly husband died in a car accident and had to raise their children hands down and cons have only two sides to college and she hopes that the third to follow suit.
I found this organization through an online registry is called the network of women in Uganda. As I was unable to visit in person representing a company to test and reassure me that it is a group that could work with
I'm here to meet with the group for the first time and learn more about their work, hopes and fears, successes and challenges. When Jolly comes home alone and explains that it is a Most of Wednesday is a day of advocacy work and how are you women are on the ground.
I wonder what the job proximity.
Alegre most of the 120 women who are HIV positive and medicines, and advice received. Workers get women take their medications correctly, they are well nourished and slum dwellers to move to encourage HIV testing.
The group's goals are to encourage support to exchange especially in regard to income-generating activities. Jolly informs me that do not support anyone.
I asked him what kind of support / Support group are looking for?
Jolly, our biggest challenge is the lack of counseling skills! Most women with we work need a training consultant to help them come to terms with their diagnosis. We do our best but we are almost ready for the job. Would great if we could get this training so that we do good works necessary.
We thank our friends who help us to access foreign markets with our crafts and beadwork. Please note that once the people realized that we were chasing accounts old calendars and magazines have started to sell for us?
But I was not know, but also surprised me realize how naive I was. Of course, old calendars and magazines are cousins Jolly and his group for which need in their business to produce pearls for sale and those who rightly regard the first sale, whether they like the income for them too. This made me think all the old magazines and calendars that are discarded in the UK can be a topic for another Section
Jolly Before leaving, I put in a call to a contact of mine Saatchi & Saatchi in the branch in Kampala, who agreed to Jolly and his group of free newspapers that they need to pearls.
He was surprised when I told him I was wondering if the holder is a modern bar next to his best friend, but he had no knowledge of poverty beyond the walls!
The contrast between the houses the rich and the poor here are incredible. The houses of the rich are exposed in a large park with walls and large dogs to keep out undesirables. over the fence is rusted cans homes without running water or indoor toilets, people in these poor neighborhoods share a communal latrine, (the door to two widespread in the photo above) children running to their feet with shoes that are very clean and rub people the homes of the wealthy are grateful to have this job because it brings much needed income and are fed
There is hard not to feel overwhelmed by some of the things I see in my work but my visit to this charity Uganda pulled out a string within years. As individuals is very little I can do to change circumstnaces of these women. What we ask is simply someone Shae skills with them too?
If you want to help Jolly and charity Mbuya contact us. If you have any idea or thought you want to share in any of the issues raised here, we are happy here
