Partially inadvertently plagiarized a Time magazine quote?
There was an article about something in Time magazine. They phrased an approximate 14 word sentence really well and I used about half of that sentence (only changing around a word or two) when writing a “letter to the editor” to my local newspaper about the same issue the Time article was about. My letter was published in the paper–both in print and online (about 9 months ago). I just realized that I could possibly get in trouble for plagiarism (though I made no profit by writing the letter to the editor). Should I be worried? Should I email the newspaper and have them take it off their website?
Its just the pre law student in me worrying i guess
Don’t sweat it. Honestly.
Half a sentence is not very actionable at all and even if it was, Time is not going to raise a fuss over 9 words.
