magazine printing services
Where do you get a magazine printed?

If i’d like to print a full fledged magazine how would I do it? Is there a good website or service. I’m talking like People or Times quality. I am looking into making an LLC and starting a magazine.

The magazines you are referring to are perfect binding and the paper used is probably 80# inside and 100# outside (expensive paper and expensive bindery). What type of scale are you referring to, National or Local? Are you wanting direct mailing, rack sales, etc.? This will help you determine a quantity. What type of finish do you want, Matte, Enamel, Gloss, Combination? Also a cost factor.

You also want to make sure you have the right advertiser/content ratio.

These types of magazines are printed using a web press, typically not sheet fed. So you will want to find a printer that uses a web press which help with cost. If it’s going to be a direct mailer you will want to find a printing service that offers that. Otherwise if it’s local, I suggest finding a printer as close to you as possible to cut down on shipping costs.

I layout, design and print 4 publications a month on 60# enamel, saddle stitched. A little cheaper to print than perfect binding and cheaper paper. Although it’s all pretty costly!

Of course some of this is personal opinion and personal experience. I don’t know all of the exact specs on People and Time magazines, so take it for what it’s worth.

Oh, there’s so much more. Let me know if I can help any further!
