Does anyone work for a big Newspaper or Magazine? I have some questions.?
Our school has just started up a Photo Journalism club and as treasurer i have to come up with a budget to propose to the site council. Our club advisor wanted me to make sure we do things as professional as we can. I was wondering what type of computers and what type of software to big Newspaper and Magazine companies use. For example, is Mac OSX more common than Windows? What desktop publishing programs are used, Adobe InDesign? Anything else?
I know im being vague but i dont have any idea where to look for this information. Thanks for any and all help!
I work for a large television news organization, which also has its own website. Photoshop and Illustrator are used extensively for artwork and photos (both windows and OSX). The “art” boxes are more often than not going to be on Mac’s because they’re good at that kind of stuff, and we need things like final cut for video. MS office is on pretty much every computer, and Word is used for documents (obviously) and excel is great for budgeting and the like. A lot of our stuff for web publication is made in-house so going into that wouldn’t be terribly helpful for you.
I know I’m not coming from the exact perspective you wanted, but it’s kinda close.
