How to Get Published on
www.bannedmagazine.com;
Accepting Stories and Photos
Stories
Seeking well-written stories about censorship, government secrecy and privacy. Issue stories that explore a global trend have a better chance of being accepted than stories that focus on a single event in one country or region. That doesn't mean all accepted stories must have world-wide implications - a well written profile of a local free-speech crusader or strict censor would have a great chance of running, too. First-person accounts of censorship by professional journalists will also be considered.
Stories with photos and or video receive priority. Please look around this web site to get a feel for content.
All copy must be submitted in a Microsoft Word document. Please include story idea or ideas, an introduction email, resume, list of references and three writing samples. Willing to work with college journalism students.
There are no strict rules about word count, but 500 to 2,000 words is the general range.
Pay is $50 per story upon acceptance of final draft payable by check or Paypal. Freelancers also get a profile page on www.bannedmagazine.com with a photo, brief biography and links to the writer's own web page or blog.
Authors retain the rights to their work and can resell a portion or the entire story 24 hours after it has been published on www.bannedmagazine.com. However www.bannedmagazine.com only accepts stories that have not yet been published elsewhere and will keep the story on its web site permanently.
Submit your story to submissions@bannedmagazine.com.
Photos
Seeking photographs for the Free-Speech Photo of the Week. Photos must be emailed in a .jpg format (100mb or smaller file size). Photos can be of protests, rallies, events - there really aren't any restrictions. Please check out previous free-speech photos of the week to get an idea what I'm looking for (click here).
Photos must have been taken within the last week, or be new in some way. For example a photo taken one year ago, but which won a prize within the last week would be considered.
Pay is $50 per photograph. Photographers also get a profile page on www.bannedmagazine.com with a mug shot of the photographer, brief biography and links to the photographer's web page.
Photographer retains rights to the image but www.bannedmagazine.com will keep the photo on its web pages permanently.
Submit your photo to submissions@bannedmagazine.com.
